Jamie Green cuts the grass and keeps up the general maintenance at Charter Farms. He works hard, is reliable and is a pleasant person to be around. Recently he graduated from college and it was time for him to take a new job with more opportunity. We were sorry to see him leave but happy to see him grow… until he came back from his first day of work with this story.

(Day 149) Mother In Law
Recently I read a blog from Dr. Ichak Adizes (I wrote about Dr Adizes on on Day 128) about the subject of love. Love is an even deeper subject than trust. When you come from a place of love you are automatically in a place of integrity and trust.In this article he speaks of being near his mothers bedside at the time of her death. This reminded me of when I was at the bedside of my mother-in-law when she died in May of 1992. I remember it as if it was yesterday. A lot of people make fun of their mother-in-law, not me…my mother-in-law was different. She treated me with respect, we liked being together and we laughed often. I thought she was someone special. She always had a smile even though she did not have a a very glamorous or easy life. I don’t remember her ever taking an extended vacation or receiving flowers on a regular basis or having fancy meals out. She loved simple things like bowling, gardening and sports. She kept only a couple of good friends. What you would notice is that when you were together she would pay attention to you… she would make you feel important with that soft friendly voice and that upbeat personality.

(Day 148) A Trust Deficit
Today President Obama is working hard on passing new legislation that forces Wall Street to play fair. This is probably good news as we are suffering from a major financial trust deficit in this country. The hard part for most of us is that financial regulation is like a foreign language. Who understands the complex world of derivatives and hedge funds? We have to trust that some people in the government understand this game well enough to know how to regulate it. Then, there is always the concern that the fox is running the hen house; all three of Obama’s key financial advisers have strong ties to Wall Street. These ties could be good or could be bad, it all depends on the integrity of the individuals. [...] -
(Day 147) Trustees of the Planet
Today is Earth Day. When I was a kid, my 5th grade teacher talked about pollution and it’s impact on our lives. She encouraged us to get involved in picking up trash and recycling. It was the first time I felt any responsibility to take care of the planet. Shortly after that I was enrolled in 4-H and we volunteered on Saturdays to help the community recycle. It was a good feeling, one that stays with me today. [...] -
(Day 146) Bully Bull
I really hate bullies. I know…I am not suppose to hate anyone … so maybe it’s not the person I hate but the act of bullying. What causes these bullies to do what they do? Ever since Phoebe Prince decided to take her own life there has been a public backlash against bullies. Phoebe is the only person that really knows what happened those harsh days in Massachusetts, but it is very obvious it was bad. The result screams for attention and I am joining voices from around the world that are saying ENOUGH!I consider myself somewhat of an expert on bulling as I was bullied when I was a kid. It all started in fourth grade. We had just moved to a new town from another small community where we all pretty much played peacefully. On my first day at my new school, I had an important lesson in trust. One of the kids told me that I should go home right after school because two guys, Tim and Jim, would be “after” the new guy. He said if they found me alone they would grab me and things would get ugly. Their system was that Tim would hold you while Jim would do the punching. [...]
