  • (Day 99) Doubt, The Enemy Of Trust

photoAs of tomorrow at 1:20 in the afternoon, I will have blogged everyday for 100 days. Wow! This seem like a lot to me, but I am only at 10% of my goal of 1000 days of trust. On the eve of my 100th day I was thinking maybe it would be appropriate to have some kind of celebration. Instead, I find myself feeling solemn, even sad. Today I have a familiar but uncomfortable feeling; doubt has arrived on my doorstep. This is the kind of visitor you hope won’t stay long. Doubt is the opposite of trust and works to undermine everything…your work, your beliefs, your life. It fosters a lack of confidence, delays decision and saps your energy. That is how I feel right now. [...]

  • (Day 94) Labor Unions And Trust

0-89940-119-8Last night I met Alice, she is a retired labor union attorney. She and I were at the bar (I was eating, not drinking – really). I offered her my bread and made a new friend. I asked her about trust. She began to give me a history lesson about why the unions exist. I must have asked a pretty dumb question because she seemed bewildered at my ignorance. At the end of her speech it was clear she needed me to understand that unions exist because of distrust, and each new version of the union movement is based upon this foundation. Infusing trust in this relationship is heresy and there is no way that is was going to happen in our lifetime. Maybe I should focus my attention of something more achievable like eliminating world hunger. I am kidding here. . . Alice and I had a very animated and respectful conversation and I fully enjoyed it.

  • (Day 90) The Key to Walking Marathon

    Feet

The key to walking Marathon Key is to switch to a bike! That is exactly what I did, check out the photo essay for Day 90!

  • (Day 87) The Keys to Change

Quick note: If don’t know why I am walking the Keys… you might want to check out Day 79 – Body Trust.

I met Mike on the plane, he was my seat mate. It turned out that we built trust pretty fast, it helped that we had lots of time to talk. Our plane hit a flock of birds on the way in and our pilot told us that we needed to have a maintenance person sign off before we took off. I know this story… that’s fine with me, take your time.

Mike and I sat in First Class. I do it because I am getting close to being too fat for coach. You know…that guy in the middle seat people have nightmares about… ha (this needs to change, hence my walking trip in the Keys). Mike and I had some fun joking about him sitting in First Class as a black man. Then we learned we had a female pilot, and we made more jokes about that. It’s great when people see prejudice for what it is and can laugh about it. That’s where the world needs to get to… this is so ridiculous that it’s funny.

I found out that Mike worked with my friend Kevin from B. Braun and my brother in-law Jim, small world. Things turned a little serious when we talked about his childhood

  • (Day 85) My First Book Review

Here is a lesson for today. BE NICE TO EVERYONE! You never know who is going to be the next person to give you a hand…  The other day I received a surprise email from P K Govind, he is a well respected business counselor here in the Lehigh Valley.  I know him through his work at SCORE and the Institute. His email included a review of my book! I was pleased to see that he had captured so much of what I was trying to say in just a few short paragraphs. I probably should have asked for his assistance earlier, it could have made writing the book a much shorter process. ha. Here are his thoughts. Thanks PK!! [...]

  • (Day 82) The World As I See “It” – Albert Einstien

albert-einstein1262699131My long term associate, Jill Gonzales gave me a copy of this essay written by Albert Einstein. In reading it, I was happy to find that I could easily understand what he was saying! I also found that much of what he was saying was is sync with my own values and the Trust Tour. Here are a few his thoughts that hit home with me:

    • - we exist  for other people
    • - the sacrifices of others is motivated him to give of himself
    • - ease and happiness were not the goal of  his life
    • - valued kindness, beauty and truth.
    • - respected everyman, idealized none.
    • - the mystery of life is knowing there is something greater beyond our own lives.

Here is Albert Einstein’s, The World As I See It

  • (Day 81) Rings of Trust Turned To Dust?

    2010winterolympics

I keep thinking about how trust played into the accidental death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the 21 year old Olympic athlete from Georgia. I am sure by now you have heard about the horrific accident. He was on the last turn of a practice run on the luge, going 90 miles an hour. He came out a turn and slammed into the wall. He was ejected from his sled into the air and stopped by a steel pole just a few feet from the track. Unbelievable… [...]
