  • (Day 179) Tony Salvaggio Part II Leadership

  • (Day 178) Tony Salvaggio Part I Education

Tony is one of my favorite people to interview on the Trust Tour. Previously, I did a 20 minute audio interview with him that I think has more value per minute than anything we have published before. He is passionate, clear, and has a depth of wisdom. He has an amazing track record of success, building one of the most successful companies ever created in the Lehigh Valley. Today we are talking about a very different and important topic… the future, the future of our children.

  • (Day 177) I Don’t Trust Nobody

george-thorogoodMy long time friend Kevin Wolfe was mowing the grass listening to his ipod when the George Thorogood song “I Don’t Trust Nobody” came on. Kevin is tuned into the Trust Tour and took note of the lyrics. The song is about mistrust of everyone, he says…

When it comes to my girl

    I don’t trust nobody

When it come to my girl
You know things are gettin’ funny
    All over the world

    Now this old man
You know they call him James
    When night begin to fall
You know he change his name
    At ten o’clock at night
They all go out to play
    Twelve o’clock comes
He says “Come to Annie Mae”

    I don’t trust nobody
When it comes to my girl
    Things are gettin’ funny
    All over the world

    Now this fine fox
    That lives on my block
    When she begin to walk
You know cars begin to stop
    Finest little thing
    That you’ll ever see
    She’s the same one
    Took my woman from me

    I don’t trust nobody
When it comes to my girl
    Things are gettin’ funny
    All over the world

    It ain’t always a man
    Who acts like a flirt
    It ain’t always a man
    That gets your daughter hurt
    It ain’t always a man
Who drags her in the dirt
    It ain’t always a woman
    Who wears a mini skirt

    I don’t trust nobody
When it come to my girl
    Yeah, things are gettin’ funny
    All over this world

    I don’t trust nobody
When it come to my girl
    I don’t trust nobody
When it come to my girl
    Not a doggone soul
You know things are gettin’ funny
    All over this world
    Yeah, things are gettin’ funny
    All over this world

    I don’t trust nobody
When it come to my girl
I don’t trust my best friend
    I don’t trust my brother
    I don’t trust my father
    I don’t trust you
I don’t even trust the president
When it come to my girl

But really, it is true that you can’t trust nobody?  If that is true, then you can’t trust “your girl” and without trust the relationship is doomed to end.  So, I think the better idea is to trust the person you are committed to. Trust that they will do the right thing, trust that they will keep integrity and honor in their life. Stay connected, communicate, communicate, communicate.  Trust starts within yourself and builds upon this foundation.

  • (Day 170) Did You Get Your Trust Band Yet?

This interview was created by my partner Jeff Tintle from Lehigh Valley Entrepreneur. He ran into Hal Mante from the American Fence company who is using his Trust Band to hold himself accountable.

I was very impressed with the way Hal is using the Trust Band, especially since he said he is not the kind of guy that normally wears these kinds of things”. Watch his story…

  • (Day 169) What Have You Created Lately?

steve-jobsThe other day I was reading an article about a critic from a online techno magazine that had a late night chat with Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple computer.  I think it’s pretty cool that Steve Jobs is having middle of the night chats with customer/critic(s) about technology. The conversation apparently went something like this.. the critic complained about how Apple wasn’t being revolutionary anymore and had, in fact, become part of the establishment. This is because Apple has been controlling what  developers could provide on a  iPod or iPad. Steve Jobs explained that he wanted the user to have a positive experience, and not have to be subject to things like pornography . The critic went on to complain that he should be able to do whatever he wanted on his device, and actually he and his wife like pornography. He was saying that Apple was turning into big brother.

First, let me declare that I have an opinion about this subject… and when you have an opinion it opens you up to critics. So, here is my truth. I am a huge Steve Jobs fan. I am a huge Apple fan. The reason is because they create easy to use technology and cool tools that I use everyday. Steve Jobs helped invent the personal computer, and refine and make prolific the windows concept. They invented the iPod and now the iPad and everyone else is just copying these tools. I like originals and I love the innovative thinkers that create them. How many people even have the chance to be involved in three major technological innovations in a lifetime (not to mention the creation of PIXAR)? The only other person in modern times was Thomas Edison. I have great respect for these people because through their work our lives get better.

Now, Apple is not perfect, and may have gotten so big there is some evil creeping into the company. But I don’t question the motives of the top people they have earned my trust. So when some average Joe starts to throw rocks at them it gets my attention.  Their exchange went on for quite some time and got pretty technical. After a while you could see that Steve Jobs was getting frustrated and he ended the conversation with this quote, “As for us, we are doing what we can to try and preserve the users experience we envision. You can disagree with us but our motives are pure…. By the way what have you done that is so great? Do you create anything or do you just criticize others work and belittle their motivations?”

    Touché… Steve

Since you are on the Trust Tour this is a reminder not to put down people and instead find ways to make things better, otherwise you will have to turn your Trust Band to red. Do you get IT? IT = (Integrity and Trust)

  • (Day 167) Stop The Killing In China

BalanceI am pained by the rash of school age children being murdered in China. Today, a man with a meat cleaver walked into a small private school, killed 2 adults and 7 children, then committed suicide. On April 30, a man armed with a hammer injured five preschool children in east China before setting himself on fire. On April 29, at least 28 children were injured when a man with a knife attacked a kindergarten in east China. On April 28, a man attacked 18 students and a teacher with a knife at a primary school in southern China. March 23, (the first report of this kind) a former community doctor stabbed eight children to death at an elementary school in eastern China.  He said he was upset about his lack of a love life before being killed by a firing squad. This story received wide media coverage and seemed to set off a series of copy-cat killers. [...]

  • (Day 166) A Day Of Peace

peacePart of being trustful is to be calm, being calm is taking some time to clear your head of all the garbage.  So what would be so wrong with taking a peace day once in a while. A day that you consciously agree that you will not answer the cell phone or get caught up in any  intense conversation or have to do anything. It is a day to be a human being not a human doing.  You don’t have to do anything, just enjoy the day. Take one day and protect your time and take a hike in the woods, go shopping, ride a motorcycle, sail, work in the garden, listen to music, paint, read something that inspires you. Refresh and relax but do it consciously. Today that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I am just going to be me and not have to do anything and be okay with that. Try it, I think you’ll like it.
