Jamie Flinchbaugh sent me the TED conference video below; it’s about young entrepreneurs. I connect with his message because my story is very similar to the one Cameron Herold tells here. If our country is going to continue to lead the world in innovation we need to understand this message. We need to change the way we nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs. Check out Cameron’s presentation.

(Day 132) Curtis Webb Jr. Tells His Story
When you meet someone for the first time, you never know if it just a passing experience or if they are going to have a significant impact on your life. If you ever run into Curtis Webb Jr. it will most likely be the latter. I met Curtis when he was a student at Warren Hills High School. He had already started his first business and was looking to start another. He had a great work ethic, was tenacious and mature beyond his years. I was impressed and suggested that he apply to our eVenture summer program for young entrepreneurs. Curtis and his team made an impressive showing making it all the way to the final round. The next year he came back to help lead the program and the year after that he worked on creating a similar program at St Francis University. He also was a guest speaker in front of over 100 business leaders at the Charter Partners Annual Invitational. If that is not enough, Curtis blew me away with this video of his experience. He is a class act; I am sure he has taught me as much, or more, than I taught him. You will see what I mean…

(Day 129) Be Childish
Wow, you will love Adora Svitak, she is a child prodigy with a message. Her childish philosophy just might be the answer we need to solve the issues facing our society. She touches your heart with this amazing speech on trust and creativity. The video is 10 minutes long and worth every minute. Thank you to Zach Bloom for discovering her for us. Enjoy!

(Day 125) Is The First Follower The Real Leader?
Today I received a YouTube video from Zach Bloom. He is a student at Lehigh University and founder of LifeServe. This video challenged my paradigm on leadership. You might want to take time to watch it for yourself. I have a new respect for followers, and as a result decided that I can improve my leadership. I need to keep doing my dance and “trust” more people will catch on. We have 102 followers as of today, not bad!
There is an old saying my father taught me that has new meaning today.
“Lead, follow, or get out of the way!”
If this rings true for you, what is it you want to lead or follow? Go ahead, put yourself out there!

(Day 124) Elmer Gates Part V
Part five of a series of leadership stories.
Elmer Gates is a legend here in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. His leadership helped to turn Fuller and Co. into a world-class global competitor. He also established Embassy Bank, a local bank that is flourishing. For our community, Elmer has helped establish the direction of the valleys Economic Development and introduced Skills USA, a program that has helped thousands of high schools develop business skills. He is now in his 80’s, the time when you could be taking it easy. Instead Elmer is taking on a new mission in the Adirondack Mountains. Several times a month Elmer takes a 5+ hour drive to these mountains (he was born and raised there). He is determined to help the area turn it’s financial troubles into a new economic force. When you spend time with Elmer, it is fast-paced, interesting and always about moving something forward. I caught up with him at his bank for a conversation.
