I enjoyed today’s session, Todd, especially since we shoveled more snow up here! Don’t Rush Trust is a favorite of mine because I am currently trying to take that advice more to heart myself. Your anecdote struck me because I think that forming opinions about news stories like that surrounding Tiger Woods makes people especially vulnerable. That’s because, in our culture, race, sex and big money are extremely loaded subjects, fraught with emotion. So asking a new acquaintance to share his views more widely makes him more vulnerable–while allowing him more time to think through his opinions might give him the confidence to share them, to trust himself and to speak.
Beth, since you have been shoveling so much snow I am going to add to my blog “Don’t Rush Home” ha. I agree with your comments… making yourself vulnerable first, by sharing information, also can help build trust. Thanks for you thoughts!.
