The other day I was talking to a friend who works for a large company. He was telling me that the general attitude inside the company is something like this, “I am here to get a paycheck; I will do what I have to do but my commitment does not go a whole lot deeper than that.” Wow, that’s a pretty tough way to go through life. These people feel like slaves to the system, they’re probably pretty angry much of the time and have resigned themselves to their lot in life, or do not have the tools to move on.
Life can be a whole lot better. Work can be an extension of your life, not just a place you have to do stuff you hate so you can eat and sleep. If you’re like me, you want some amount of freedom, financially and personally and you want to do something of value every day. Because I am an entrepreneur and have attained a certain level of success some people may say that I don’t understand the struggle, that I have what I need. I do have what I need, most of us have what we need. I am also confident that I have enough knowledge to continue to create new wealth, not just financial wealth but life wealth. Where did this confidence come from? I am blessed to have a father and mother who instilled in me the entrepreneurial values of Think – Team – Trust. That spirit is the primary reason I have been able to take time to focus on the Trust Tour mission. I want to learn more about integrity and trust (IT) and share my knowledge along the way. But, I do not have all the answers and I struggle every day.
I believe that finding your integrity and building trust is not something that is a luxury for the elite. It is the basic knowledge that creates wealth, not only financially but also the wealth that permeates every part of your life, health, family, relationships, knowledge. Integrity and trust (IT) is not something you start to focus on once you have achieved wealth and success, rather it is the way to wealth and success. Maslow’s Heirarchy indicates that people cannot focus on such things as morality, creativity, problem solving, lack of prejudice and acceptance of the facts until they reach the very highest level of the hierarchy. Some of us never get there. Like everything else in this world it is time to turn the hierarchy upside down. It is my experience that morality, creativity, problem solving, lack of prejudice and acceptance of the facts are the very things that get you out being a slave and into freedom. Think about what could happen if we could get this knowledge into the minds of people earlier in their lives… Could “IT” improve life for millions?
Why waste time doing stuff you hate? Why whine and complain through your day when you have the ability to create a new environment? One of the great curses bestowed upon a human being is the sense of entitlement. Instead of being a comfort, it strips away a persons power and destroys confidence, enslaving them to a life of dependence. We all have the power to create; we all have the power to change; we all have gifts inside of us that are intended for the world. The question is, what kind of life will we choose? A life of dependence or a life of giving?
The end of our lives will be here before you know it. Just think about how fast the time has already passed. Yet, we get caught up in complaining and arguing and selfish needs, sometime hurting the people we love the most. If right now you felt chest pain come on, your life might pass before your eyes. What would you see? A life to be proud of?
I leave you with this quote from the movie Benjamin Button:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
